Grateful 365 Day Forty-seven

Owl on a Wire

While on our way to assembly this evening I noticed an owl perched on the power line overlooking a cornfield.  We were running late so I didn’t take the time to stop but hoped I might see it around afterwards. As you probably guessed, it was still around – and in fact, was in the exact same spot as it was nearly 2 hours earlier, so my wonderfully supportive wife, Sue, pulled over so I could make a few shots. It was starting to get dark and I didn’t have a tripod, so shooting at 300 mm meant I had to push the ISO up and use a faster aperture than I would have liked.  Thankfully, the owl was very cooperative and kept looking at me. I think this is a relatively young owl, judging from the softer feathers still clinging to it. Click the photo and you’ll be taken to a page where you can load a larger version to see more detail.

Owl on a Wire
Montana has a great variety of wildlife and I am Grateful that I had the chance to make a photo of this owl.
